Don’t drag your feet.
If you want a catastrophe the day before or the day of the wedding, just put things off. The more organized you are and the better you have delegated those “last minute” things, the more you will be able to participate in and enjoy your wedding day.
There is no reason not to book your reception venue 12 to 18 months in advance especially if you plan to be married during the more popular months of spring and early autumn/fall.
Have your final dress fitting weeks not days before the event! Make sure the groom and groomsmen also have a fitting prior to the day and ensure that all the ties, cufflinks and accessories match. Often suit hire companies will accidentally mix up orders, and its often too late on the day of your wedding to return to the store to exchange wrong or faulty goods.
Have make up and hair trials well before the day, so if you are not happy with the make-up artist or salon, there will be time to look for an alternative. Ask recently married fiends and colleagues for recommendations. However do not delay in talking with these professionals that have been recommended to you, because if they are any good will also be booked months in advance.
